Everything You Should Know About Steel Building Components
Base Rail
The base rail is a galvanized steel tubing at the base of the structure. It provides incredible stability to your new metal building.
Anchors
Specific anchoring devices, depending on the surface to be anchored to, that secure the structure to the foundation.
Legs
Legs are galvanized square steel tubes that attach the base rail to the trusses. They are vertical structural components.
Braces
Braces are components secured to the side columns to transfer loads from the building to the concrete foundation. Rod braces form an X between rigid frame rafters for reinforcement.
Wall
Walls are built with steel frames and covered with galvanized steel panels.
Trim
There are two kinds of trim available in our inventory: eave trim and gable trim. Eave trim is sheet metal that lines the sides of the buildings, and gable trim edges the ends along the roof peak, or gable. Both kinds of trim provide weatherproofing and a stylish appearance.
Truss
A truss is a steel tube that creates the frame for the metal roof at the top of the building. Trusses are engineered to provide clear span space below, without the need for interior columns.
Doors
Walkout doors can be customized for your convenience and placed wherever is most useful to your floorplan. Doors often have sidewall girts (horizontal structural components) attached to the top of the door jamb for additional support.
Windows
Aluminum frame commercial windows or traditional windows are supported by a horizontal structure known as a sidewall girt.
Ridge Cap
The ridge cap is a steel cover that is engineered to fit over the peak of the roof, where the angled panels meet.
Hat Channel
Aptly named for its resemblance to a top hat, this steel component is used in steel buildings with vertical roofs to provide increased structural support.
Roof
The paneled portion of the building at the top of the building, and which creates a shelter, is called the roof.
Roof Bow
This component is unique to regular roof buildings. The roof bow is a steel tubing that transitions from the roof to the leg.
Roof Braces
Roof braces are steel reinforcements that are attached to the roof trusses for additional strength.
Insulation
Insulation is material placed between the steel tubing and the galvanized panels to create a metal building interior that is more easily climate-controlled.
Gable
A gable is a triangular piece that decorates the peak area of the roof and extends down to the top of the side wall. It is visually appealing to many customers.
J Trim
This “J”-shaped metal trim provides coverage for rough sheet metal edges. It gives an elegant appearance to frame-outs and other openings on a metal building.
L Trim
“L”-shaped trim is used to create a visually appealing aesthetic on A-framed roofs and door openings.
Tubing
Galvanized, hollow, square steel tubing is used to build the frame for metal buildings. Base rail, legs, and trusses are built from steel tubing.
Frame Outs
Openings in metal buildings that provide entry and exit are called frame outs. These can be traditional or Dutch.
Side Panels
Sheet metal side panels are approximately 3’ wide and vary in length to provide customized coverage.
Wainscoting
The lower section of a metal building, which is engineered to be a different color than the main portion of the building, is known as the wainscoting.
Why We Choose Galvanized Steel for Liberty Structures
Galvanized steel is the material of choice for Liberty Metal Structures, but what does it mean for steel to be galvanized?
Galvanization is a process by which steel is coated with zinc to prevent rust or corrosion. There are two major processes used in the industry to produce galvanized steel.
The most common method is “hot-dip”, where the panel is dipped directly into a vat of molten zinc! The zinc barrier provides a longer lifespan to its steel components and reduces maintenance costs.
Another method is the electro-galvanized process; this involves the steel being immersed in a cold zinc bath. Electroplating is produced by introducing an electrical current to the cold bath.
The Many Benefits of a Galvanized Steel Metal Building
Your metal building is a significant investment of your time, energy, and money! Making an informed decision will be crucial. Why should you choose galvanized steel? Because there are so many benefits!
- It has incredibly low initial and lifetime costs! You’ll save on labor and materials in your upfront construction. Plus, galvanized steel lasts for decades, so you won’t need to setmoney aside for costly upkeep or repairs.
- It’s highly sustainable. Prove your commitment to green initiatives with a 100% recyclable building! Your eco-friendly metal building will be energy-efficient, non-corrosive, and non-toxic. It is sure to impress any inhabitants with allergies and depress any pests who want a wooden snack. You won’t find a more environmentally positive material than steel.
- It’s easy to maintain! Simple water will clean your exterior most days, and there’s no need for costly pest inspections or shingle repair. Steel buildings are certified to withstand extreme weather events, so you can face the future of climate change with confidence!
- It has an incredible life expectancy, with most steel buildings lasting fifty years or more!
- Galvanized coatings make the inspection a breeze. Galvanized steel is prized for its durability and ease of use, so evaluation is simple and quick.
- Galvanized steel parts are installed the minute they arrive on site. Installation is so simple that some buildings can be constructed by the buyer! Because buildings are pre-engineered on the factory floor, there is only bolting left to be done.
