Choosing Your Roof Style Based on Weather Conditions
The weather conditions in your area will have a substantial effect on which type of roof you’ll need for your metal barn. Some designs are more capable of withstanding extreme weather such as wind, rain, and snow.
Vertical Roofs
This roof type is named for the vertically oriented paneling that runs along the roof. A vertical design allows rain, snow, and general debris to easily slide from the roof. Vertical roofs are engineered to withstand some of the harshest climates and storms and are the best choice for regions that frequently experience severe weather.
A-Frame Roofs
A-frame, or boxed-eave, roofs feature horizontally placed panels and are a good mid-level option for your metal barn. It’s best suited for areas that experience heavy winds but minimal precipitation.
Regular Roofs
Regular roofs, as you’ve seen, are denoted by their rounded ends and horizontal paneling. This option is one of the most economical roofing choices, but they typically don’t fare as well as other styles when faced with heavy winds or rains. You'll want to pick this option if you live in an area with a calm, moderate climate.
Why Should You Choose a Regular Roof Metal Barn
There are several fundamental reasons a potential customer would choose a regular style roof for their barn. The foremost reason would be the price tag. Regular roofs are the most cost-effective gable style available. They're less expensive than vertically oriented or A-frame roofing systems and can be installed in less time.
The second reason buyers pick a regular roof over vertical or A-frame setups comes down to simple aesthetics. Many customers prefer the sleek, rounded edges of the regular roof design and enjoy the traditional charm it evokes. And for regions that don’t experience a ton of harsh weather, these roofs are a fantastic, stylistic choice.
One limitation to using regular roofs on your metal barn is the size. Due to the dimensions of the horizontal paneling, regular roofs can only be built so wide before they require the use of two panels. This would create a seam along the center of your roof that would be susceptible to water damage and rust. If you intend to install your metal building at a larger size, you will most likely need vertical panels for the best possible results.

Customization Options to Enhance your Metal Barn
Metal barns offer a vast amount of customization options. They can easily be tailored to suit almost any need, from the paneling colors to the ventilation and trim. Below, we've listed some of the customization options that are available to you:
Size
Choosing the right size for your building is the most fundamentally important aspect of any construction project. Whether it's a smaller carport or a large warehouse, you need to know how big it will be and how much interior space it provides. You don't want to end up with a building that's too small or too large!
Color
Choosing complementary color schemes can transform a drab building into something truly breathtaking. And with a considerable assortment of paneling, roof, and trim colors to choose from, you can ensure that your barn building stands out in the crowd!
Wainscoting
Wainscoting is a great way to add a bit of extra flavor to any metal barn. With this option, you can easily add a splash of secondary colors to your building. Choose between a wide range of colors and pick a set of colors that works for you!
Panels
The meat and potatoes of any construction project, your paneling is the first thing anyone will see when looking at your building. It's also the one thing separating you from harsh winds and torrential rains. Our paneling can be arranged both vertically or horizontally, depending on taste and budget.
Windows and Doors
A structure needs windows and doors! And depending on how you intend to use your metal barn, you’ll need plenty of them! Adding windows allows natural light to shine through and can liven up any space. And doors are great for added ventilation!
Gauges
The thickness of your framing, panels, and roofing will play a significant role in the overall strength of your metal barn. Our buildings are designed to meet or exceed the wind, snow, rain, and seismic regulations throughout most of America. Depending on your region and the severity of your weather, you may need to opt for thicker gauges and reinforcements.
Certifications
Your building will be required to pass all building certifications in your area. Before breaking ground on your new metal barn, you’ll want to do considerable research with your local building inspectors to determine what certifications you’ll need.
Installation
Your new metal barn can be installed in a fraction of the time it would take to build stick-built structures. Depending on the size of your building, the installation process can take a few days to a few months. Having your construction site level and cleared of any obstructive debris will help speed up the process. You’ll also need to ensure that your concrete foundation is fully cured before installation.

Affordability and Scalability
Regular roof metal barns are available in several different sizes that can be customized depending on your budget and needs. However, due to their design, there are size limits to the regular roof system. Preparing for Installation!
There are several things you’ll want to focus on as you come closer to installation day. Having a thorough approach will clear up any loose ends and can save you tons of time and headache in the long run. Below, we’ve compiled a few steps to help streamline the process:
Obtain all necessary building permits!
You'll want to take special care to communicate with your local building inspectors to determine precisely which permits and regulations you'll need to pass. Failure to do this can result in heavy fines and, if not handled properly, can even end with the outright destruction of your building.
Know what type of foundation you will use
Our metal barns can be built over concrete, asphalt, or dirt foundations! You'll need to let our installation crew know which foundation type you'll use to ensure that we bring the proper tools and anchors for your new building.
Make sure your site is level
This is very important to the integrity of your structure. If you intend to use a concrete foundation, you will need to be sure that the ground is adequately graded, leveledand that the concrete has fully cured prior to installation. Uncured concrete can secrete moisture that will penetrate the galvanized steel, causing rust and damage over time.
Mark any buried utility lines near your build site
This aspect can literally mean life and death for you and the installation team. You will need to take special note of all live utility lines near your construction site. By marking these lines, you can prepare your building for proper wiring while ensuring the safety of everyone around.
Clear debris from around the installation site
Logs, leaves, trash, and any number of items may be present at your build site, and you’ll want to take special care to remove these obstructions. Doing so will minimize build time.
Metal Barn Prices
Liberty Metal Structures offers a wide variety of different building options. We have a ton of customization options to suit any need and any style. And, as a result, our pricing can fluctuate depending on several factors.
The cost of steel
Raw steel prices can fluctuate wildly depending on shipping costs, weather events, and overall demand. This can significantly affect the price of your metal barn.
Location
Your location can also have a tremendous effect on the price of your metal building. Areas that experience severe weather will likely require heavier load certifications and framing and roofing reinforcements. These will increase the overall price tag of your metal barn.
Customization
The level of customization in your metal barn will also affect the final price for your structure. Increasing the building dimensions, adding premium roofing options, choosing trim, and needing additional doors and windows will make your new building more expensive.
Terrain
The terrain surrounding your build site will also influence the cost of your structure. Areas that are mountainous, remote, or require special equipment for our installation crews to access will increase prices.
